Underwater Photographer in Riviera Maya
I’m Emilia, an underwater photographer from Argentina, based in the cenotes and coastlines of Mexico.
I studied Audiovisual Communication at the National University of La Plata, which gave me a strong foundation in visual language, composition and storytelling — long before underwater photography became a trend. I didn’t arrive at this work by accident or by buying a camera; I arrived through years of technical training, visual study and real-world experience.
I moved to Mexico in 2017, where water became not just my environment, but my medium. For the past eight years, I’ve worked exclusively as an underwater photographer, documenting both marine life and human movement beneath the surface. My work spans from open ocean photography in Baja California to underwater cenote photography in the Riviera Maya.
Experience, Safety and Direction Underwater
Cenote photography requires far more than aesthetic sensibility. It demands precise control of light, depth, buoyancy and timing — as well as a deep understanding of how people move, breathe and react underwater.
Many of my clients have never done an underwater photoshoot before. My role is not only to photograph, but to guide each session calmly and safely, helping people relax, move naturally and feel confident in an unfamiliar environment. This is where experience matters.
Over the years, I’ve learned how to turn hesitation into flow and tension into stillness — allowing authentic expressions and effortless movement to emerge underwater.
Why Cenotes
Cenotes offer a visual and emotional quality that cannot be replicated in pools or the ocean. Soft natural light, crystal-clear water and unique rock formations create a timeless, surreal atmosphere — ideal for underwater portraits that feel intimate, calm and powerful.
My work in cenotes focuses on creating images that feel natural rather than posed, guided rather than forced. Every session takes place in carefully selected cenotes, chosen for visibility, light conditions and privacy.
